Judge Oscar M. Telfair III | 387th Family Court
MEET THE JUDGE
Judge Oscar M. Telfair III has presided over the 387th District Court in Fort Bend County, Texas since being elected on November 5, 2024.
The 387th District Court specializes in family law matters, including divorce, custody disputes, enforcement actions, Department of Family and Protective Services (CPS) cases, termination and adoption suits, name changes, domestic violence, and paternity actions.
Judge Telfair earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1982, and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 1985. He began his legal career as a tax and corporate attorney at Marathon Oil Company, working first in Ohio and later in Houston, Texas. In 1994, he founded The Law Office of Oscar M. Telfair III, P.C. — also known as “The Telfair Firm” — where he maintained a general practice covering family, civil, criminal, tax, real estate, wills and probate, and commercial law.
A dedicated community servant, Judge Telfair has been a Fort Bend and greater Houston area resident since 1987. He has been a member of the NAACP – Missouri City and Vicinity Branch since that time and has served on the boards of organizations including Change Happens CDC and Fort Bend Family Promise. In 2020, he co-founded the nonprofit “Bridgeton Area Brothers United (BABU)” to support youth in his hometown of Bridgeton, New Jersey. He is also an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and has served as a Deacon for 35 years and a Trustee Board member at his church. Since 2017, he has facilitated a Men and Boy’s Conference, “Molding Great Minds,” which has grown to over 450 attendees annually.
On the bench, Judge Telfair is committed to applying the rule of law with compassion, impartiality, and the highest ethical standards — ensuring that all who enter his courtroom are treated with dignity and respect.
